🗄️ Database Setup Guide for Singularity
Transform from mock connections to production-ready database infrastructure
🎯 Overview
Your Singularity app now uses REAL database connections instead of simulated ones. Here's what changed:
✅ REAL Connections
- Firebase Firestore - ✅ Already configured and working
- MongoDB Atlas - 🔧 Requires API key setup
- Redis Cache - 🔧 Requires REST API setup
- IndexedDB - ✅ Already working locally
🎭 Previous Simulated Connections → Now REAL
The connection tests you're seeing in your logs are now making actual HTTP requests to real database services.
🚀 Quick Setup (5 minutes)
Step 1: MongoDB Atlas Setup
Go to MongoDB Atlas: https://cloud.mongodb.com/
Create Data API Key:
# In your MongoDB Atlas dashboard: # 1. Go to "Data API" section # 2. Enable Data API # 3. Create API Key # 4. Copy the API keySet Environment Variable:
# Add to your .env file or environment: export NX_MONGODB_API_KEY="your-mongodb-api-key-here"
Step 2: Redis Setup (Upstash - Free Tier)
Go to Upstash: https://upstash.com/
Create Redis Database:
# 1. Sign up for free account # 2. Create new Redis database # 3. Get REST API URL and TokenSet Environment Variables:
# Add to your .env file: export NX_REDIS_REST_URL="https://your-redis-instance.upstash.io" export NX_REDIS_API_KEY="your-redis-token-here"
🔧 Detailed Configuration
MongoDB Atlas Configuration
1. Enable Data API
// Your current config in mongodb-integration.service.ts:
const MONGODB_CONFIG = {
dataApiUrl: 'https://data.mongodb-api.com/app/data-hnbqp/endpoint/data/v1',
apiKey: process.env['NX_MONGODB_API_KEY'] || 'your-mongodb-api-key',
dataSource: 'Cluster0',
database: 'singularity-prod'
};
2. Database Collections Setup
Your MongoDB will automatically create these collections:
logic-blocks- Stores logic block definitionslogic-connections- Stores block connectionsuser-sessions- User session dataperformance-metrics- App performance data
3. API Operations Available
// Examples of real operations now available:
await mongoService.insertOne('logic-blocks', blockData);
await mongoService.find('logic-blocks', { userId: 'user123' });
await mongoService.updateOne('logic-blocks', { _id: blockId }, { $set: updates });
await mongoService.deleteOne('logic-blocks', { _id: blockId });
Redis Configuration
1. Upstash Setup
// Your current config in redis-integration.service.ts:
const REDIS_CONFIG = {
restApiUrl: process.env['NX_REDIS_REST_URL'] || 'https://your-redis-instance.upstash.io',
apiKey: process.env['NX_REDIS_API_KEY'] || 'your-redis-api-key',
database: 0,
defaultTTL: 3600
};
2. Caching Operations Available
// Examples of real caching now available:
await redisService.cacheLogicBlock(blockId, blockData, 3600);
await redisService.getCachedLogicBlock(blockId);
await redisService.cacheUserSession(userId, sessionData);
await redisService.set('custom-key', data, 1800);
🛠️ Environment Setup
Create .env File
# Create .env in your project root:
NX_MONGODB_API_KEY=your_mongodb_atlas_api_key_here
NX_REDIS_REST_URL=https://your-redis-instance.upstash.io
NX_REDIS_API_KEY=your_redis_api_key_here
Update Environment Files
Your environment files are already configured:
environments/environment.ts(development)environments/environment.prod.ts(production)
Build Configuration
# Development with real databases:
nx serve singularity
# Production build:
nx build singularity --prod
🔍 Connection Testing
Test Individual Connections
// Test MongoDB
mongoService.testConnection().subscribe(success => {
console.log('MongoDB connected:', success);
});
// Test Redis
redisService.testConnection().subscribe(success => {
console.log('Redis connected:', success);
});
// Test Firebase (already working)
// Firebase will connect automatically with your config
Debug Connection Issues
// Check connection status:
mongoService.getConnectionStatus().subscribe(status => {
console.log('MongoDB status:', status); // 'connected' | 'disconnected' | 'error'
});
redisService.getConnectionStatus().subscribe(status => {
console.log('Redis status:', status);
});
// Get error details:
console.log('Last MongoDB error:', mongoService.getLastError());
console.log('Last Redis error:', redisService.getLastError());
📊 What You'll See Now
Before (Simulated)
✅ MongoDB Atlas connection simulated
✅ Redis connection simulated
After (Real Connections)
🔄 Testing real MongoDB Atlas connection...
✅ Real MongoDB Atlas connection successful (234ms)
🔄 Testing real Redis connection...
✅ Real Redis connection successful (156ms)
Performance Metrics
Your Redis service now tracks real metrics:
redisService.getMetrics().subscribe(metrics => {
console.log('Real Redis metrics:', {
totalOperations: metrics.totalOperations,
successfulOperations: metrics.successfulOperations,
averageResponseTime: metrics.averageResponseTime,
cacheHitRate: metrics.cacheHitRate
});
});
⚡ Performance Benefits
Real vs Simulated
| Feature | Simulated | Real |
|---|---|---|
| Data Persistence | ❌ Lost on refresh | ✅ Persistent across sessions |
| Real-time Sync | ❌ Fake | ✅ Multi-user real-time updates |
| Performance Metrics | ❌ Fake numbers | ✅ Real response times |
| Scalability | ❌ Limited | ✅ Production-ready |
| Error Handling | ❌ Basic | ✅ Comprehensive retry/fallback |
Caching Performance
// Real caching improves performance:
// 1st request: ~200ms (database hit)
// 2nd request: ~15ms (cache hit)
// Cache hit ratio: 85%+ in production
🚨 Troubleshooting
Common Issues
1. MongoDB "Authentication Failed"
# Issue: Invalid API key
❌ MongoDB Error: Invalid API key (401)
# Solution:
1. Check your MongoDB Atlas Data API settings
2. Regenerate API key if needed
3. Update NX_MONGODB_API_KEY environment variable
2. Redis "Network Error"
# Issue: Wrong REST URL or API key
❌ Redis connection failed - authentication error
# Solution:
1. Verify Upstash dashboard settings
2. Check REST URL format (must include https://)
3. Update NX_REDIS_REST_URL and NX_REDIS_API_KEY
3. CORS Issues
# Issue: Browser blocking cross-origin requests
❌ CORS policy error
# Solution:
# Add to your MongoDB Atlas/Upstash CORS settings:
# - http://localhost:4200 (development)
# - https://your-production-domain.com (production)
Debug Mode
// Enable debug logging:
// In environment.ts, set:
features: {
debugMode: true
}
// You'll see detailed connection logs:
🔄 Testing MongoDB Atlas connection...
📡 HTTP POST to: https://data.mongodb-api.com/app/data-hnbqp/endpoint/data/v1/action/findOne
