Resize Issue - Debug Ready 🔍
🎯 Issue Understanding
Based on your screenshot, when resizing from the edge handles (top-center, right-center, bottom-center, left-center - the ones I circled in red), the SVG "slides" instead of resizing cleanly.
✅ Fix Applied
I've completely rewritten the resize handle logic to directly calculate deltas instead of using temporary coordinate values.
Key Changes
Before (Conceptually Wrong):
- Stored position deltas temporarily in
newBounds.xandnewBounds.y - Then calculated
deltaX = newBounds.x - startBounds.x - Mixed coordinate spaces
After (Correct):
- Calculate
deltaXanddeltaYdirectly from mouse movement - Separate size changes from position changes
- Clean, semantic data flow
🔧 Debug Logging Added
I've added console.log statements to help us see exactly what's happening:
In ResizeHandlesComponent:
console.log(`[ResizeHandles] Handle: ${handle}, dx: ${dx}, dy: ${dy}, emit:`, {
width, height, deltaX, deltaY
});
In Demo Component:
console.log(`[Demo] Element ${id}:`, {
oldPos,
delta: {x, y},
newPos,
oldBounds,
newDimensions
});
📊 How to Test
- Refresh the app (the Angular dev server should auto-reload with the changes)
- Open browser console (F12 or Cmd+Option+I)
- Select a shape (like the hexagon)
- Try resizing from the RIGHT edge handle (the one on the right-center)
- Watch the console logs
Expected Output
For resizing from RIGHT edge:
[ResizeHandles] Handle: e, dx: 50, dy: 0, emit: {width: 150, height: 100, deltaX: 0, deltaY: 0}
[Demo] Element hexagon-xxx: {
oldPos: {x: 420, y: 100},
delta: {x: 0, y: 0},
newPos: {x: 420, y: 100},
oldBounds: {x: 0, y: 0, width: 100, height: 100},
newDimensions: {width: 150, height: 100}
}
Result: Position stays at (420, 100), width grows from 100 to 150 ✅
For TOP edge:
[ResizeHandles] Handle: n, dx: 0, dy: -30, emit: {width: 100, height: 130, deltaX: 0, deltaY: -30}
[Demo] Element hexagon-xxx: {
oldPos: {x: 420, y: 100},
delta: {x: 0, y: -30},
newPos: {x: 420, y: 70},
oldBounds: {x: 0, y: 0, width: 100, height: 100},
newDimensions: {width: 100, height: 130}
}
Result: Position moves up to (420, 70), height grows from 100 to 130 ✅
🐛 What to Look For
If it's still sliding, check the console logs:
Potential Issue 1: Wrong Delta
[ResizeHandles] Handle: e, deltaX: 50 ← WRONG! Should be 0 for right edge
Potential Issue 2: Position Changing When It Shouldn't
[Demo] newPos: {x: 470, y: 100} ← WRONG! x shouldn't change for right edge
Potential Issue 3: Old Code Still Running
If you don't see the console logs at all, the browser might not have reloaded the new code. Try:
- Hard refresh: Cmd+Shift+R (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows)
- Clear cache and reload
- Restart the dev server
📝 What I Need From You
Please test and tell me:
Do you see the console logs?
- If NO → Browser didn't reload new code
- If YES → Continue
What handle are you testing? (top, right, bottom, left, or corner)
What do the console logs show?
- Copy/paste the console output
What is the visual behavior?
- Does it slide/jump?
- Does it resize smoothly?
- Does it resize but in the wrong direction?
🎯 Expected Behavior
Right Edge Handle
- ✅ Element stays in place (left edge fixed)
- ✅ Width increases/decreases
- ✅ Height unchanged
- ✅ No vertical movement
Top Edge Handle
- ✅ Element moves up/down (bottom edge fixed)
- ✅ Height increases/decreases
- ✅ Width unchanged
- ✅ No horizontal movement
Top-Left Corner Handle
- ✅ Element moves up-left (bottom-right fixed)
- ✅ Both width and height change
- ✅ Proportional resize
🔄 If Still Broken
If the issue persists after seeing the correct logs, then there might be:
- A CSS/rendering issue
- A transform/translate issue
- An SVG viewBox calculation issue
- Something else interfering with the visual rendering
The logs will tell us if the data is correct, even if the visuals are wrong.
