Phase 7 Next Steps - Immediate Actions
Prioritized next actions to begin Phase 7 implementation
⏭️ Phase 7 Next Steps
Updated: November 7, 2025 3:00 PM
Priority: Start with Backend Foundation
🔥 Immediate Actions (Start Now)
1. Create Backend Data Controller 🔴 CRITICAL
File: apis/backend-api/src/app/data/data.controller.ts
Time: 2 hours
Priority: CRITICAL
Why Critical: Without backend APIs, none of the frontend services can function
Steps:
- Create data/ folder in backend-api/src/app
- Create data.controller.ts with NestJS controller
- Implement POST /query endpoint first
- Test with Postman or Thunder Client
- Verify returns data from MongoDB
Success: Can query universe collections via API
2. Implement Data Service 🔴 CRITICAL
File: apis/backend-api/src/app/data/data.service.ts
Time: 1 hour
Priority: CRITICAL
Steps:
- Create data.service.ts
- Inject Connection from @nestjs/mongoose
- Implement query business logic
- Add validation
- Add logging
Success: Service handles all data operations safely
3. Create Data Module 🟡 HIGH
File: apis/backend-api/src/app/data/data.module.ts
Time: 30 minutes
Priority: HIGH
Steps:
- Create data.module.ts
- Import SpacesModule (for SpaceDatabaseService)
- Provide UniverseDataController
- Provide UniverseDataService
- Export service
Success: Module configured correctly
4. Integrate Data Module 🟡 HIGH
File: apis/backend-api/src/app/app.module.ts
Time: 15 minutes
Priority: HIGH
Steps:
- Import DataModule
- Add to imports array
- Restart backend server
- Test /api/spaces/.../data/collections endpoint
Success: Backend starts without errors, endpoints accessible
5. Test Backend APIs 🟡 HIGH
Tool: Postman or Thunder Client
Time: 1 hour
Priority: HIGH
Test Cases:
GET /api/spaces/{spaceId}/universes/{universeId}/collections
- Should return empty array (no collections yet)
POST /api/spaces/{spaceId}/universes/{universeId}/data/users/query
- Should return empty or error (collection might not exist)
POST /api/spaces/{spaceId}/universes/{universeId}/data/users/insert
- Should insert record
- Verify in MongoDB Compass
Test update, delete, export endpoints
Success: All endpoints respond correctly
📅 This Week's Goals
Monday-Tuesday (Day 1-2)
Focus: Backend Data APIs
Deliverables:
- UniverseDataController complete
- UniverseDataService complete
- DataModule configured
- All CRUD endpoints working
- Tested with Postman
Hours: 8 hours
Wednesday (Day 3)
Focus: Universe Collection Triggers
Deliverables:
- Hook added to universe creation
- SpaceDatabaseService.createUniverseCollections() called
- Tested universe creation
- Verified collections in MongoDB
Hours: 4 hours
Thursday-Friday (Day 4-5)
Focus: Database Management Blocks
Deliverables:
- database-management-blocks.ts created
- All 5 block templates defined
- Execution handlers implemented
- Blocks appear in Singularity library
- Each block tested individually
Hours: 8 hours
🎯 Week 1 End State
By end of Week 1, we should have:
- ✅ Complete backend API for data operations
- ✅ Universe collections auto-create on creation
- ✅ Database blocks functional in Singularity
- ✅ All pieces tested individually
Result: Foundation complete for Week 2 integration work
📋 Quick Start Checklist
Before You Start:
- Backend running:
cd apis/backend-api && npm run start:dev - MongoDB accessible
- Postman/Thunder Client ready
- Have test space ID and universe ID
Create Files In Order:
-
apis/backend-api/src/app/data/data.controller.ts -
apis/backend-api/src/app/data/data.service.ts -
apis/backend-api/src/app/data/data.module.ts - Update
apis/backend-api/src/app/app.module.ts - Test endpoints
- Update
apis/backend-api/src/app/spaces/spaces.service.ts(universe trigger) - Create
libs/singularity-lib/src/lib/templates/database-management-blocks.ts - Add execution handlers to
logic-execution-engine.service.ts
Test Each Step:
- Controller compiles
- Endpoints respond
- Data persists to MongoDB
- Blocks appear in library
- Blocks execute correctly
💡 Pro Tips
For Backend Development:
- Start simple - Get one endpoint working first
- Test immediately - Don't write all endpoints before testing
- Use MongoDB Compass - Verify data is actually in database
- Log everything - Use NestJS Logger for debugging
- Handle errors - Wrap in try/catch, return meaningful errors
For Database Blocks:
- Copy existing blocks - Use HTTP or Auth blocks as templates
- Test in isolation - Create flow with just the database block
- Check console - Verify execution logs
- Inspect variables - Use Variables tab to see results
- Iterate quickly - Fix, test, repeat
For Integration:
- One feature at a time - Don't integrate everything at once
- Verify each connection - Backend → Frontend → UI
- Real data always - No mocks in integration testing
- Perfect isolation - Verify space A can't see space B data
🚨 Critical Success Factors
Must Get Right:
- Universe Scoping - Every query must filter by universeId
- Authentication - All endpoints must verify ownership
- Data Isolation - Perfect multi-tenancy
- Error Handling - Graceful failures
- Performance - Fast queries with proper indexes
Can Iterate Later:
- Advanced analytics
- Real-time updates
- Bulk operations UI
- Query builder complexity
- Export formats
📊 Success Metrics
Technical Metrics
- 100% endpoint uptime
- <200ms average API response time
- Zero data leaks between universes
- Zero critical bugs
- 90%+ test coverage
User Experience Metrics
- <3s page load time
- <1s data browser load
- Intuitive data management
- Clear error messages
- Beautiful UI consistently
