๐จ CRITICAL DEBUG - Project Selection Component Not Rendering
Date: October 28, 2025
Issue: Component loads but doesn't render
Status: ๐ DEEP DEBUGGING IN PROGRESS
๐ฏ What I Discovered From Your Logs
The Smoking Gun ๐
Your console showed:
โ
ProjectSelectionComponent loaded!
BUT IT NEVER SHOWED:
๐๏ธ ProjectSelectionComponent: Constructor called! โ MISSING!
๐ฏ ProjectSelectionComponent: ngOnInit called! โ MISSING!
What This Means ๐ก
- โ Route matches correctly
- โ Component module is imported
- โ Component instance is NEVER created
- โ Component template is NEVER rendered
This is a critical Angular issue - the component class is being loaded but Angular is not instantiating it!
๐ง What I Just Added - CRITICAL DEBUGGING
Change #1: Constructor Logging
constructor() {
console.log('๐๏ธ ProjectSelectionComponent: Constructor called!');
console.log('๐ Store:', this.store);
console.log('๐งญ Router:', this.router);
console.log('๐ AccessService:', this.accessService);
}
If any dependency injection fails, we'll see which one.
Change #2: IMPOSSIBLE TO MISS DEBUG BANNER
<div style="position: fixed; top: 0; left: 0; background: lime; color: black; padding: 10px; z-index: 99999;">
โ
ProjectSelectionComponent IS RENDERING!
</div>
If the component renders AT ALL, you WILL see a BRIGHT GREEN banner at the top-left corner!
๐งช CRITICAL TEST - Do This NOW
Step 1: Hard Refresh
Cmd+Shift+R (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+F5 (Windows)
Step 2: Look For THREE Things
Test A: Green Banner
Question: Do you see a BRIGHT GREEN banner in the top-left corner saying "ProjectSelectionComponent IS RENDERING!"?
- โ YES โ Component IS rendering, template works, issue is elsewhere
- โ NO โ Component is NOT rendering at all
Test B: Constructor Log
Question: Do you see ๐๏ธ ProjectSelectionComponent: Constructor called! in console?
- โ YES โ Component is being instantiated
- โ NO โ Angular is not creating the component instance
Test C: Dependency Errors
Question: Do you see any RED errors in console about Store, Router, or AccessService?
- โ YES โ One of the dependencies is failing
- โ NO โ Dependencies are fine
๐ Diagnostic Decision Tree
After Refresh:
โ
โโ GREEN BANNER VISIBLE?
โ โ
โ โโ YES โ Component renders!
โ โ โ Issue is with loading state or data
โ โ โ I'll fix the loading logic
โ โ
โ โโ NO โ Component doesn't render
โ โ
โ โโ Constructor log appears?
โ โ โ
โ โ โโ YES โ Template has error
โ โ โ โ I'll simplify template
โ โ โ
โ โ โโ NO โ Instance not created
โ โ โ
โ โ โโ Dependency error shown?
โ โ โ โ
โ โ โ โโ YES โ Dependency issue
โ โ โ โ โ I'll fix DI
โ โ โ โ
โ โ โ โโ NO โ Router/Route issue
โ โ โ I'll fix routing
๐ฏ Expected Console Output (Success Case)
๐ฏ Loading ProjectSelectionComponent...
โ
ProjectSelectionComponent loaded!
๐๏ธ ProjectSelectionComponent: Constructor called!
๐ Store: [Store object]
๐งญ Router: [Router object]
๐ AccessService: [AccessService object]
๐ฏ ProjectSelectionComponent: ngOnInit called!
๐ ProjectSelectionComponent: Loading projects...
๐ก ProjectSelectionComponent: Dispatching LoadAvailableProjects...
โ
ProjectSelectionComponent: Loaded projects: 11 [Array]
AND you'll see the GREEN BANNER on screen!
๐จ Most Likely Issues & Fixes
Issue #1: Router Outlet Not Rendering โ ๏ธ
Symptom: No constructor log, no green banner
Fix: The router-outlet might not be rendering the component
Solution: I'll need to check app.component.html
Issue #2: Dependency Injection Failure โ ๏ธ
Symptom: Error about Store, Router, or AccessService
Fix: One of the services isn't provided
Solution: I'll add providers or fix service availability
Issue #3: Template Compilation Error โ ๏ธ
Symptom: Constructor logs but no green banner
Fix: Template has syntax error
Solution: I'll simplify the template
Issue #4: Z-Index/CSS Covering โ ๏ธ
Symptom: Green banner exists in DOM but not visible
Fix: Something is covering it
Solution: Check if app loading overlay is still there
๐ฌ What Happens Next
Scenario A: You See Green Banner โ
USER: "I see the green banner!"
ME: Perfect! The component renders. The issue is just the loading state.
I'll fix the data loading logic and you'll see the project cards.
Scenario B: No Green Banner, Has Constructor Log โ ๏ธ
USER: "I see constructor log but no green banner"
ME: Template rendering issue. I'll create a minimal template.
Scenario C: No Constructor Log At All โ
USER: "I don't see any constructor logs"
ME: Component not being instantiated. I'll check:
1. Router outlet configuration
2. Dependency providers
3. Route matching logic
๐ Information I Need From You
Please provide:
- GREEN BANNER: Yes/No - Do you see it?
- CONSTRUCTOR LOG: Yes/No - Do you see
๐๏ธ ProjectSelectionComponent: Constructor called!? - ERRORS: Any RED errors in console?
- SCREENSHOT: Full browser window
- CONSOLE: Copy ALL logs after refresh
โก Quick Actions While We Wait
If you don't see the green banner, try:
Action 1: Navigate Directly
// In console:
window.location.href = '/select-project';
Action 2: Check Router
// In console:
console.log('Current Route:', window.location.pathname);
console.log('RouterOutlet:', document.querySelector('router-outlet'));
Action 3: Force Clear Everything
// In console:
localStorage.clear();
sessionStorage.clear();
location.reload();
๐ฏ Success Criteria
When working, you'll see:
- โ GREEN banner in top-left corner
- โ Constructor logs in console
- โ ngOnInit logs in console
- โ Project loading logs in console
- โ Beautiful purple gradient background
- โ Project cards
Status: โณ AWAITING USER REFRESH
Action Required: Refresh browser and tell me about the green banner!
Build: โ
SUCCESS (with critical debugging)
