🐛 The Problem

Symptoms

🚨 EMERGENCY CIRCUIT BREAKER ACTIVATED for /docs/english/Ai-instructions/index.md - 11 requests in 5s!

What Was Happening

  1. ✅ User selects "AI Instructions" project from dropdown
  2. ✅ System persists selection to localStorage
  3. ✅ User navigates to root: http://localhost:5010/
  4. ✅ DynamicPageComponent resolves path: "/" → "/index"
  5. ❌ System tries to load /docs/english/Ai-instructions/index.md
  6. ❌ File doesn't exist! (AI Instructions has no index.md)
  7. ❌ System retries 11 times in 5 seconds
  8. 🚨 Circuit breaker activates to protect server

Root Cause

Assumption: Every project MUST have an index.md file.

Reality: Many projects don't have index.md:

✅ The Solution

Changed Approach

Before ❌:

  // Just keep "/" - Let DocsPageComponent handle folder detection

How It Works Now

When user navigates to root (/):

1. DynamicPageComponent receives: "/"
   ↓
2. Passes "/" to DocsPageComponent
   ↓
3. DocsPageComponent detects it's a folder path
   ↓
4. Folder detection logic tries:
   a. index.md ✅ (if exists)
   b. README.md ✅ (if exists)
   c. Auto-guide 📋 (if no files)
   ↓
5. NO infinite retries! ✅
6. Circuit breaker NOT triggered! ✅

Already implemented in DocsPageComponent:

  1. handleRouteChange() - Detects folder vs file
  2. loadGuideData() - Loads folder contents
  3. Auto-guide rendering - Shows folder structure with links

🧪 Testing

Test Case 1: Project WITH index.md

Project: GoGrab-Space
Files: ✅ Has index.md

Expected:

✅ Navigate to http://localhost:5010/
✅ Load GoGrab-Space/index.md
✅ Display content
✅ No circuit breaker

Test Case 2: Project WITHOUT index.md

Project: Ai-instructions
Files: ❌ No index.md (has ai-instructions-index.md, ai-integration.md, workspace-context.md)

Expected:

✅ Navigate to http://localhost:5010/
✅ Detect folder (no index.md)
✅ Show auto-guide with:
   - ai-instructions-index.md
   - ai-integration.md
   - workspace-context.md
✅ No circuit breaker! ✅

Test Case 3: Project with README.md

Project: (hypothetical)
Files: ❌ No index.md, ✅ Has README.md

Expected:

✅ Navigate to http://localhost:5010/
✅ Load README.md as fallback
✅ Display content
✅ No circuit breaker

  2. Graceful Fallback - Auto-guide shows folder contents
  3. Flexible Structure - Projects don't need index.md
  4. Better UX - Users see available content instead of errors
  5. Server Protection - No unnecessary load from retries
