✅ Sync System Verification Checklist

After fixing sync errors on November 18, 2025

🔍 Quick Verification Steps

1. Open Console (Chrome DevTools)

Expected: Clean console with minimal logging

Look for:

• ✅ [SyncEngine] ✅ Space synced to backend
• ✅ [SyncEngine] ✅ Universe synced to backend
• ✅ [SyncEngine] ✅ Sync complete

Should NOT see:

• ❌ Failed to sync operation (repeating)
• ❌ 404 (Not Found) on space/universe endpoints
• ❌ HttpErrorResponse errors
• ❌ Infinite retry loops

2. Create a Universe

1. Click "New Universe" button
2. Enter name: test-sync-verify
3. Click "Create"

Expected Console Output:

3. Multi-Browser Sync Test

Browser 1 (Chrome):

1. Create universe: chrome-test-universe
2. Wait 10 seconds (sync interval)

Browser 2 (Firefox/Safari/Incognito):

1. Login with SAME user
2. Wait for sync (< 10 seconds)
3. Check universe list

Expected:

• ✅ chrome-test-universe appears in Browser 2 within 10 seconds
• ✅ No page refresh needed
• ✅ Automatic UI update

Console in Browser 2:

[SyncEngine] 📥 Pulling changes from backend
[SyncEngine] ✅ Pulled and merged space from backend
🌌 Fetching universe from backend: universe_...
✅ Universe fetched and stored: universe_...

4. Error Recovery Test

Simulate Network Error:

1. Open DevTools → Network tab
2. Set "Throttling" to "Offline"
3. Create universe: offline-universe
4. Wait 5 seconds
5. Set "Throttling" to "Online"

Expected Behavior:

• ✅ Universe created locally (instant)
• ✅ Shows in UI immediately
• ⚠️ Sync queued (pending network)
• ✅ After online: sync completes within 10 seconds
• ✅ No errors, just queued

Console:

[SyncEngine] 🔄 Starting sync...
📤 Pushing 2 operations to backend
⚠️ Network error, will retry
[SyncEngine] ✅ Sync complete (after reconnection)

5. Corruption Detection Test

Manual Test (for developers):

1. Open IndexedDB in DevTools
2. Find ggStorage database
3. Find a sync operation with missing space.id
4. Wait for next sync cycle

Expected:

🧹 Removing unrecoverably corrupted space operation (no space.id): { id: "...", operation: "update", dataKeys: [...] }

• ✅ Operation removed from queue
• ✅ No retry loop
• ✅ Sync continues normally

Still seeing 404 errors?

Check:

1. Backend deployed to Railway?

2. Sync interval running?

   // Should see in console every 10 seconds:

3. Queue size?

   // In console (if you have access to service)
   syncEngine.syncQueue() // Should be array
   

MongoDB not updating?

Check:

1. MongoDB connection string correct in Railway?
2. Database name correct? (space_${spaceId})
3. Collections exist? (spaces, space_${spaceId}.universes)
4. User has permission to write?

🎉 Final Verification

After all tests pass, you should see:

Console: Clean, minimal logging

✅ Space synced to backend
✅ Universe synced to backend
✅ Sync complete

MongoDB: Updated within 10 seconds
