Session ID System Implementation

Implementation guide for the new Session ID tracking system

🎯 Session ID System Implementation

Overview

We've successfully implemented an intelligent Session ID tracking system for the GoGrab Space documentation. This system provides a standardized way to track documentation progress across all AI agent sessions.

What Was Implemented

1. Enhanced docs/sessionID.md

Location: /docs/sessionID.md

Features:

Key Improvements:

2. Updated docs/AGENTS.md

Location: /docs/AGENTS.md

Changes:

3. Updated Root AGENTS.md

Location: /AGENTS.md

Changes:

Session ID Format

Standard Format

<month>.<year>.<mainSession>.<subSession>

Components

Examples

11.25.1.1    → November 2025, Main Session 1, Sub-session 1
11.25.1.2    → November 2025, Main Session 1, Sub-session 2
11.25.2.1    → November 2025, Main Session 2, Sub-session 1
12.25.1.1    → December 2025, Main Session 1, Sub-session 1

How It Works

AI Agent Workflow

When starting a new session, AI agents should:

  1. Read docs/sessionID.md to get current session ID
  2. Determine if increment is needed:
    • Same day, related work → increment subSession
    • New day or major milestone → increment mainSession, reset subSession to 1
    • New month → reset to 1.1
  3. Update sessionID.md with new session info
  4. Use session ID in all documentation frontmatter
  5. Update session history table when completing significant work

Decision Logic

function determineSessionID(currentDate, lastSessionDate, workContext) {
  const [month, year, mainSession, subSession] = parseCurrentSessionID();

  // New month? Reset main session
  if (currentDate.month !== month) {
    return `${currentDate.month}.${currentDate.year}.1.1`;
  }

  // New day or major milestone? Increment main session
  if (currentDate.day !== lastSessionDate.day || workContext.isMajorMilestone) {
    return `${month}.${year}.${mainSession + 1}.1`;
  }

  // Same day, continuation? Increment sub-session
  return `${month}.${year}.${mainSession}.${subSession + 1}`;
}

Usage in Documentation

Basic Frontmatter

---
title: My Documentation
description: Brief description

created: November 18, 2025 - 11:00 AM
sessionID: 11.25.1.1
order: 1
---

Progress Tracking Frontmatter

---
title: PROGRESS_NOTE_01
description: Progress checkpoint
icon: 📈

createdSessionID: 11.25.1.1
updated: November 18, 2025 - 3:00 PM
updatedSessionID: 11.25.1.2
status: 🎯 In Progress

Multi-File Sessions

# First file
sessionID: 11.25.1.1

# Second file
sessionID: 11.25.1.2

# Or with descriptive suffixes
sessionID: 11.25.1.1-architecture
sessionID: 11.25.1.1-implementation

Benefits

1. Historical Tracking

2. Session Correlation

3. Progress Monitoring

4. Audit Trail

5. Team Collaboration

Finding Documentation by Session

Command Line

# Find all docs from session 11.25.1
grep -r "sessionID: 11.25.1" docs/

# Find by creation session
grep -r "createdSessionID: 11.25.1" docs/

# Find by update session
grep -r "updatedSessionID: 11.25.1" docs/

Documentation System

Use the search feature with session ID as a filter (future enhancement).

Best Practices

  1. ✅ Always read docs/sessionID.md first when starting a session
  2. ✅ Update session ID before creating documentation
  3. ✅ Use consistent format across all documentation
  4. ✅ Include context in session history for significant milestones
  5. ✅ Archive old sessions periodically (keep last 20-30)
  6. ✅ Cross-reference related files using session IDs

Current Status

Implementation Status

Current Session

Session ID: 11.25.1.1
Date: November 18, 2025
Purpose: Session ID system implementation

Files Modified

  1. /docs/sessionID.md - Enhanced with comprehensive tracking system
  2. /docs/AGENTS.md - Updated with session ID requirements
  3. /AGENTS.md - Added session ID tracking section
  4. /docs/english/GoGrab-Space/architecture/recommendations/session-id-implementation.md - This file

Next Steps

  1. Test the system in next documentation session
  2. Verify session ID increments work correctly
  3. Update session history table as work progresses
  4. Consider creating a helper script for session ID management
  5. Integrate with documentation system search (future enhancement)
