Modular Universe - Progress Report

STRATEGIC REALIGNMENT: This progress report now reflects the ULTIMATE PLATFORM BUILDER vision.

Last Updated: November 14, 2025
Status: 🔴 Phase 0 - Foundation Stage
Completion: ~20% (Module browser complete, but full system needs reorganization)

🎯 VISION UPDATE

From This...

"Create a module browser for selecting modules"

To THIS! 🚀

"Build THE MOST ADVANCED PLATFORM BUILDER IN THE UNIVERSE where everything is a reusable module, from the smallest logic block to complete universe structures, with visual canvas-based building, AI-powered generation, and platform-agnostic export."

See: ULTIMATE-PLATFORM-BUILDER-MASTER-PLAN.md for complete vision

✅ COMPLETED ACHIEVEMENTS (Still Valid)

1. Module Browser System ✅ COMPLETE

Location: libs/libs-structural/module-browser-lib/

What Was Built:

Key Features:

// Module Browser Inputs
@Input() showSystemModules = false;
@Input() audience: 'space-builder' | 'end-user' | 'admin' | 'system';
@Input() mode: 'browser' | 'selector';
@Input() viewMode: 'grid' | 'list' | 'compact' | 'minimal';

// Module Browser Output
@Output() moduleSelected = new EventEmitter<ModuleBasicInfo>();

Access Control Implementation:

access?: {
  visibility: 'public' | 'private' | 'system';
  audience: 'space-builder' | 'end-user' | 'admin' | 'system';
  showInBrowser?: boolean;
  showInSelector?: boolean;
  requiresPermission?: string[];
  isSystemModule?: boolean;
};

Files Created:

2. Universal Module Type System ✅ COMPLETE

Location: libs/libs-foundational/core-models/src/lib/types/universal-module.types.ts

What Was Enhanced:

Updated System Modules: All system modules now include:

access: {
  visibility: 'system',
  audience: 'system',
  showInBrowser: false,
  showInSelector: false,
  isSystemModule: true,
  requiresPermission: ['admin']
}

Affected Manifests:

3. Section Config Panel Integration ✅ COMPLETE

Location: libs/libs-structural/modular-universe/src/lib/components/section-config-panel/

What Was Updated:

Before (Old Code):

<div class="module-assignment">
  Module Assignment
  <select [(ngModel)]="selectedModuleId">
    <option value="">-- Select Module --</option>
    <option>Singularity (custom)</option>
    <option>Space Map (custom)</option>
  </select>
</div>

After (New Code):

<lib-module-browser
  [showSystemModules]="false"
  [audience]="'space-builder'"
  [mode]="'selector'"
  [viewMode]="'compact'"
  (moduleSelected)="assignModule($event)">
</lib-module-browser>

4. TypeScript Error Fixes ✅ COMPLETE

Fixed Errors:

  1. ✅ RxJS map operator vs JavaScript Map naming conflicts

    • Files: galaxy-flow-attachment.service.ts, galaxy-connections.service.ts
    • Solution: Aliased RxJS operator as rxMap
  2. ✅ Missing imports for GalaxyInput and GalaxyOutput

    • File: galaxy-connections.service.ts
    • Solution: Added imports from @libs-foundational/core-models
  3. ✅ @ViewChild syntax errors

    • File: galaxy-flow-canvas.component.ts
    • Solution: Fixed decorator syntax
  4. ✅ Legacy Module interface conflict with @Module decorator

    • File: core-models/src/index.ts
    • Solution: Removed legacy interface exports

🟡 IN PROGRESS

1. Build System Infrastructure 🔧 ACTIVE

Current Issue: Custom build script (build-angular-library.js) needs refinement

Problem:

Current Errors:

# core-angular
Cannot find module '@libs-core/module-base' or its corresponding type declarations.

# storage-system
Cannot find name 'require'. Do you need to install type definitions for node?

Solution in Progress:

Files Being Modified:

2. Dependency Graph Cleanup 🔧 PENDING

Issue: Some circular dependency warnings during restructuring

Action Items:

🎯 ARCHITECTURAL DECISIONS

Decision 1: Module-Base as Single Source of Truth ✅

Rationale: User explicitly stated module-base should be the only source of truth for all module types and configurations, not core-models.

Implementation:

Decision 2: Access Control in UniversalModule ✅

Rationale: Need fine-grained control over which modules appear to which audiences.

Implementation:

access?: {
  visibility: 'public' | 'private' | 'system';
  audience: 'space-builder' | 'end-user' | 'admin' | 'system';
  showInBrowser?: boolean;
  showInSelector?: boolean;
  requiresPermission?: string[];
  isSystemModule?: boolean;
};

Decision 3: Reusable Module Browser Library ✅

Rationale: Module selection will be used across multiple contexts (config panels, portals, admin dashboards).

Implementation:

🎨 UI/UX ACHIEVEMENTS

Visual Enhancements

  1. Modern Card-Based Layout: Grid/list/compact views
  2. Search & Filter: Real-time search with category/type filters
  3. Favorites System: LocalStorage-persisted favorites
  4. Responsive Design: Mobile-first, scales to desktop
  5. Theme Integration: Uses GoGrab Space theme variables
  6. Visual Feedback: Hover states, selection indicators, icons

User Experience

  1. Intuitive Filtering: Category badges with counts
  2. Smart Defaults: Hides system modules from space-builders
  3. Flexible Integration: Works in panels, portals, or standalone
  4. Performance: Signal-based reactivity, no unnecessary re-renders
  5. Accessibility: Keyboard navigation ready (needs ARIA labels)

🚀 PERFORMANCE NOTES

Signal-Based Architecture ✅

All state management uses Angular signals for:

Computed Values

filteredModules = computed(() => {
  // Search, filter, sort - all reactive
});

moduleCounts = computed(() => {
  // Category/type counts - updates automatically
});

Lazy Loading Ready

🔗 INTEGRATION POINTS

Current Integrations

  1. UniversalModuleService → Provides module data
  2. LoggerService → Structured logging
  3. Theme System → CSS variables for styling
  4. Storage System → LocalStorage for favorites

Future Integrations

  1. Portal Sidebar → Embed as portal content
  2. Admin Dashboard → System-wide module management
  3. Space Builder UI → Visual module selection
  4. Widget Manager → Widget-specific module filtering

⚠️ KNOWN ISSUES

Build System (Critical)

Minor Issues

💡 LESSONS LEARNED

  1. TypeScript Path Mapping is Complex: Monorepo path aliases require careful coordination between tsconfig.base.json, library-specific tsconfig.lib.json, and custom build scripts.

  2. Signal Architecture is Powerful: Using signals for all state management resulted in cleaner, more performant code compared to RxJS observables for UI state.

  3. Access Control Should Be Core: Adding access control as an afterthought is harder than designing it in from the start - but our UniversalModule interface's flexibility made it easier.

  4. Reusable Libraries Pay Off: Creating module-browser as a standalone library (not embedded in modular-universe) ensures it can be used everywhere.

  5. Custom Build Scripts Need Maintenance: The custom build-angular-library.js script is powerful but requires ongoing refinement for edge cases.
