4. Persistence & State Management
- Flash Storage - Fast load/save using
@storage-system - Module Positions - Persisted per module
- Canvas Transform - Zoom/pan state persisted
- Last Viewed Universe - Remembers context across sessions
5. Layout Zones System ⭐ NEW
- Layout Zone Models - Type-safe zone definitions with flexible sizing
- 7 Predefined Templates:
- Header-Main-Footer
- Sidebar-Main
- Main-Sidebar
- Two-Column
- Three-Column
- Dashboard-Grid
- Hero-Content
- Custom
- Layout Zone Renderer - Visual drop zones with type validation
- Zone Drop - Create modules directly in specific zones
- Conditional Rendering - Layout mode vs free-form mode
- Visual Editor Filtering - Only structural modules (layout, galaxy, world) at universe level
6. Visual Editor Intelligence
- Type Filtering - Universe level shows only layout, galaxy, world
- All Types at Lower Levels - Galaxy and World levels show all module types
- Transparency - Console logs show hidden modules (still accessible via API/vibe-coding)
- No System Limitations - Visual constraints ≠ programmatic constraints
📝 Technical Architecture
Data Storage (following @libs-foundational/core-models)
Layout Module:
{
type: 'layout',
config: {
layoutTemplate: 'header-main-footer', // Template selection
direction: 'vertical', // Optional overrides
gap: '1rem', // Optional gap
customZones: [...] // For 'custom' template
}
}
Module in Zone:
{
type: 'galaxy',
config: {
layoutZone: 'main' // Zone ID assignment
}
}
Computed Signals (Reactive)
readonly layoutModule = computed(() =>
this.childModules().find(m => m.type === 'layout')
);
readonly layoutConfig = computed(() => {
const layout = this.layoutModule();
return layout ? getLayoutConfig(layout) : null;
});
readonly isLayoutMode = computed(() =>
!!this.layoutConfig()
);
Conditional Canvas Rendering
@if (isLayoutMode() && layoutConfig()) {
<!-- Render Layout Zones -->
<lib-layout-zone-renderer
[config]="layoutConfig()!"
[modules]="childModules()"
(zoneDrop)="onZoneDrop($event)"
/>
} @else {
<!-- Render Free-Form Module Cards -->
@for (module of childModules(); track module.id) {
<lib-module-card ... />
}
}
🎯 What Works Right Now
- Create Universe ✅
- Add Layout Module ✅ (Drag from Module Library)
- Canvas Switches to Layout Mode ✅ (Automatic)
- Drop Module into Zone ✅ (Visual feedback, type validation)
- Module Created with Zone Assignment ✅ (Stored in
config.layoutZone) - Persistence ✅ (Refresh page, layout and modules persist)
- Properties Panel ✅ (Edit name, route, view details)
- Multi-select & Keyboard Shortcuts ✅
🚧 Known Issues
1. Production Build Fails
- Issue: TypeScript cannot find
@libs-foundational/core-models,@libs-foundational/core-angular, etc. during production build - Root Cause: Path resolution in custom build script vs tsconfig
- Impact: Development mode works perfectly, but
nx run universe-map:buildfails - Status: Needs investigation of NX build configuration
2. Linter Errors (Non-Critical)
- Accessibility warnings - Missing keyboard handlers, focus states
- Unused variables - Debug/logging variables
- Output naming - Some components use standard DOM event names
- Impact: None on functionality, but should be cleaned up
3. Module Cards Not Rendered in Zones Yet
- Issue: Layout zones show placeholder cards, not actual
lib-module-cardcomponents - Status: Phase 2 implementation (next step)
- Current: Zones display module icon + name in simplified card
🔮 Next Steps (Immediate)
Phase 2: Module Rendering in Zones
Render Full Module Cards in Zones
- Replace placeholder cards with
lib-module-cardcomponents - Allow selection, editing within zones
- Support drag-to-reorder between zones
- Replace placeholder cards with
Zone Assignment Updates
- Drag module from one zone to another
- Update
config.layoutZoneon drop - Visual feedback during zone-to-zone drag
Content Editing Integration
- Click module in zone → Open properties panel
- For
pagemodules → Openeditor-web-lib - Seamless integration with existing editor
Phase 3: Advanced Layout Features
Dynamic Zone Resizing
- Draggable resize handles between zones
- Update zone
sizein real-time - Persist to layout module config
Custom Layout Builder
- Visual tool to create custom layouts
- Add/remove zones interactively
- Configure allowed types per zone
Nested Layouts
- Allow layout modules inside zones
- Recursive layout rendering
- Infinite composition
🧪 Testing Instructions
Manual Test: Layout Zones
Navigate to Universe Map
Go to any space → Universe Map tabDrag "Layout" Module
From Module Library (left sidebar) → Drop on canvasVerify Layout Mode Activated
Canvas should now show zones (e.g., Header, Main, Footer)Drop "Galaxy" into "Main" Zone
Drag "Galaxy" from library → Hover over "Main Content" zone → Drop Visual: Zone should glow blue on hoverCheck Module Created
Galaxy module should appear inside the "Main Content" zoneInspect Console Logs
Should see: 📍 Zone drop: { zone: { id: 'main', ... }, moduleType: 'galaxy', ... } ✅ Module created in zone: { id: 'mod_...', config: { layoutZone: 'main' } }Verify Persistence
Refresh page → Layout and modules should persistSelect Module
Click module → Properties panel opens on right

🎨 Design Philosophy
Reusable Building Blocks
Every feature is a composable module. Layouts are modules. Zones are configs. Everything can be nested, combined, and reused.
Visual + Programmatic
The visual editor provides clarity and structure, but doesn't limit what's possible programmatically. All module types can be created via API/vibe-coding/Singularity.
Flexible & Dynamic
7 layout templates provide instant structure, but custom layouts allow unlimited creativity.
Modern UX
Glass morphism, smooth transitions, drag-drop, real-time feedback, keyboard shortcuts, multi-select.
Integration-Ready
Works seamlessly with @storage-system, @libs-foundational/core-models, @libs-foundational/core-angular, @ux-portal, and future @editor-web-lib.
💡 Key Insights
Visual Editor ≠ System Limitations
The canvas filters modules at the universe level to show only layout, galaxy, and world for visual clarity. This is NOT a system limitation. Other tools (vibe-coding, API, Singularity) can create ANY module type at ANY level. The visual editor is one view into the universal module system.
Layouts are Modules
A "Layout" is just another module type. It has a type: 'layout' and stores its configuration in module.config. This means layouts can be created, edited, deleted, and versioned like any other module.
Zones are Metadata
Zones don't exist as separate entities in the database. They're defined in the layout module's config, and modules store their zone assignment in config.layoutZone. This keeps the data model simple and flexible.
Conditional Rendering
The canvas uses Angular's conditional rendering (@if) to switch between layout mode and free-form mode. Only one rendering path is active at a time, ensuring clean separation and optimal performance.
🏆 Vision Alignment
This implementation embodies the GoGrab Space vision:
✅ Most Powerful Platform Builder - Structured layouts + infinite flexibility
✅ Modern & Beautiful - Glass morphism, smooth animations, professional UX
✅ Reusable Building Blocks - Everything is a module, everything composes
✅ Visual + Programmatic - No artificial limitations
✅ Expandable & Enhanceable - Solid foundation for future features
🐛 Debug Tips
Check Module Filtering
// Console logs show:
🌌 [universe level] Visual editor showing: 2 [layout, galaxy]
👁️ Module hidden in visual editor (still exists!): { id: 'mod_...', type: 'widget', ... }
Check Zone Drops
📍 Zone drop: { zone: { id: 'main', ... }, moduleType: 'galaxy', position: { x: 50, y: 50 } }
✅ Module created in zone: { id: 'mod_...', config: { layoutZone: 'main' } }
Check Layout Detection
🎯 Layout detected: { id: 'mod_...', name: 'layout-...', template: 'header-main-footer' }
📐 Layout config loaded: { zones: [3], direction: 'vertical', gap: '0' }
Status: Phase 1 Complete ✅
Next: Phase 2 - Module Rendering & Editing in Zones
Build Status: ⚠️ Production build needs fixing (development works perfectly)
