🎯 What Was Done

The Variant Creator modal has been completely refactored to use the UX Portal system instead of a custom modal implementation. This ensures consistent modal behavior across the entire platform.

📦 New Architecture

1. VariantCreatorModalService

Location: libs/libs-widgets/widget-showcase/src/lib/services/variant-creator-modal.service.ts

Purpose: Service-based approach to open the Variant Creator as a UX Portal modal.

Features:

✅ Proper UX Portal configuration with backdrop, escape key, viewport constraints
✅ Force cleanup pattern to prevent DOM accumulation
✅ Context data injection via UX_PORTAL_DATA
✅ Automatic modal closure on save/cancel

2. Updated VariantCreatorComponent

Location: libs/libs-widgets/widget-showcase/src/lib/components/variant-creator/variant-creator.component.ts

Changes:

✅ Removed isOpen signal (managed by UX Portal)
✅ Removed config signal (uses injected portalData)
✅ Injected UX_PORTAL_DATA token for context
✅ Close method uses portalData.onClosed() callback
✅ Save method calls portalData.onSaveInternal() (auto-closes modal)
✅ Removed open() method (opened via service)

Template Changes:

✅ Removed @if (isOpen()) wrapper
✅ Removed modal-overlay layer (UX Portal provides backdrop)
✅ Added stopPropagation() to prevent backdrop clicks
✅ Added accessibility attributes (role="dialog", aria-modal="true")

3. Updated CoreComponentDetailComponent

Location: libs/libs-widgets/widget-showcase/src/lib/components/core-component-detail/core-component-detail.component.ts

Changes:

✅ Removed viewChild(VariantCreatorComponent)
✅ Injected VariantCreatorModalService
✅ Updated createNewVariant(), editVariant(), duplicateVariant() methods to use service
✅ Removed <lib-variant-creator> from template (rendered by UX Portal)

The modal uses best practices from @ux-portal.md:

🧪 How to Test

Route:

http://localhost:5200/space/un-test-space/widgets/guide/button

Steps:

Navigate to the Button component detail page
Click the green "Create Variant" button (top-right or bottom sticky bar)
Verify UX Portal modal opens with:
- ✅ Dark backdrop
- ✅ Centered modal
- ✅ Smooth fade-in animation
- ✅ Escape key closes modal
- ✅ Clicking backdrop does NOT close (user must explicitly close)
Fill in the form:
- Name: "Test Button Variant"
- Description: "Testing the variant creator with UX Portal"
- Category: Select "Style"
- Tags: "test, primary"
Click "Save Variant"

Check console for:

Verify modal closes automatically after save
Test escape key: Open modal again, press ESC, verify it closes

🐛 Troubleshooting

Modal doesn't open:

Check console for [VariantCreatorModal] logs
Verify UxPortalService is available
Check for port conflicts (should be 5200)

Modal doesn't close on save:

Verify onSaveInternal callback is being called
Check console for VariantCreatorModal] Modal closed log

Form inputs not working:

Verify trapFocus: false in portal config
Check stopPropagation() on content wrapper
