HANDOFF SESSION 108 GOGRAB PULSE OVERHAUL

Documentation for Handoffs

Handoff: Session 108 - GoGrab Pulse Music Player Overhaul

Handoff ID: handoff-session-108-pulse-overhaul From: Coding Agent (Cursor, Session 108) To: Cowork Browser Agent Priority: HIGH Created: February 12, 2026 Status: Pending Verification

Context

Session 108 fixed a completely broken music player at pulse.gograb.space and delivered a major enhancement overhaul. The player had stopped working after migrating from FTP-based hosting (gograb.space/pulse) to Cloudflare Pages (pulse.gograb.space). The root cause was that MP3 files were never included in the Cloudflare Pages deployment -- only songs.json was deployed, so all 22 tracks returned 404 errors when the player tried to stream them.

What Was Done

Phase What Status
1 Fixed broken playback: copied 22 MP3s (~92MB) from iCloud to deploy/gograb-pulse/music/, deployed to Cloudflare Pages DEPLOYED
2 Created sync CLI tool (tools/scripts/sync-pulse-music.sh) for managing songs from iCloud or any local folder CREATED
2 Created NestJS Pulse backend module (apis/backend-api/src/app/pulse/) with MongoDB schemas for songs and playlists, full REST API CREATED (needs backend running to test)
3 Enhanced player with: Media Session API (car/lock screen controls), PWA support, shuffle/repeat, sleep timer, playback speed, persistent state, search, audio visualizer, swipe gestures, keyboard shortcuts, fullscreen mode DEPLOYED

Tasks (8 total)

Task 1: CRITICAL - Verify Music Playback on Production

Goal: Confirm all 22 tracks play correctly on the production domain.

  1. Navigate to https://pulse.gograb.space/player/
  2. Verify playlist loads: Should show "22 TRACKS" in the playlist header
  3. Play the first track ("A darle, mijo"): Click the pink play button or click the track in the playlist
  4. Verify audio plays: Progress bar should move, time counter should update (0:00 -> 0:04 -> etc.), duration shows ~3:02
  5. Test 3 more tracks by clicking them in the playlist:
    • Track 5: "Dreams" (~2:51)
    • Track 9: "Higher Ground" (~3:19)
    • Track 22: "You Hear Him Too" (~2:55)
  6. Test the "Next" button: Click the forward skip button (right arrow icon) -- should advance to next track and keep playing
  7. Test the "Previous" button: Click backward skip -- if more than 3 seconds into a track, it should restart; if under 3 seconds, it should go to previous track
  8. Report: Which tracks play successfully, and which (if any) fail. Note any HTTP errors in the browser console (press F12 > Console tab)

Expected: All 22 tracks stream and play without errors.

Task 2: HIGH - Verify Media Session API (Car/Lock Screen Controls)

Goal: Confirm that track metadata appears on the OS media controls (important for car Bluetooth and mobile lock screen).

  1. On mobile (iPhone or Android), navigate to https://pulse.gograb.space/player/
  2. Start playing any track
  3. Lock the screen or swipe down to the notification center
  4. Verify: Track title and artist name appear on the lock screen media widget
  5. Verify: Play/Pause, Next, Previous buttons work from the lock screen
  6. Verify: Album artwork shows (GoGrab Space symbol icon)
  7. If possible, test in a car via Bluetooth: Pair phone, play a track, verify the car's display shows the track name and artist, and steering wheel controls work
  8. Report: Screenshots of lock screen controls showing track metadata

On Desktop (Chrome/Edge):

  1. Play a track at pulse.gograb.space/player/
  2. Check the browser's media controls (Chrome: top-right media icon in toolbar, or OS media overlay)
  3. Verify track name and controls appear

Task 3: HIGH - Verify PWA Installation

Goal: Confirm the player can be installed as a standalone app.

On Mobile (iPhone Safari / Android Chrome):

  1. Navigate to https://pulse.gograb.space/player/
  2. iPhone: Tap Share > "Add to Home Screen"
  3. Android: Tap three-dot menu > "Install app" or "Add to Home Screen"
  4. Verify: App icon appears on home screen with "GoGrab Pulse" label
  5. Open from home screen: Verify it opens without browser chrome (standalone mode, no URL bar)
  6. Play a track: Verify audio works in standalone mode
  7. Lock screen test: Verify media controls still work when app is in background

On Desktop Chrome:

  1. Navigate to https://pulse.gograb.space/player/
  2. Look for the install icon in the URL bar (or three-dot menu > "Install GoGrab Pulse")
  3. Install and verify it opens as a standalone window

Report: Screenshots of the installed app on home screen and running in standalone mode.

Task 4: HIGH - Verify Enhanced Playback Features

Goal: Test all the new player controls.

Shuffle:

  1. Click the shuffle button (crossed arrows icon, left of secondary controls)
  2. Verify: Button turns cyan when active
  3. Verify: Toast notification shows "Shuffle ON"
  4. Click Next several times -- tracks should play in random order
  5. Click shuffle again to turn off -- toast shows "Shuffle OFF", tracks return to original order

Repeat:

  1. Click the repeat button (loop arrows icon)
  2. Verify cycle: OFF -> "Repeat ALL" (button turns cyan) -> "Repeat ONE" (button shows "1" badge) -> OFF
  3. In "Repeat ONE" mode: let a track finish -- it should restart the same track
  4. In "Repeat ALL" mode: skip to the last track, let it finish -- should wrap to first track

Playback Speed:

  1. Click the speed button (shows "1x")
  2. Verify cycle: 1x -> 1.25x -> 1.5x -> 2x -> 0.5x -> 0.75x -> 1x
  3. Play a track and change speed -- audio should play faster/slower accordingly
  4. Button turns cyan when speed is not 1x

Sleep Timer:

  1. Click the clock icon (sleep timer button)
  2. Verify: Modal opens with options: 15 min, 30 min, 45 min, 1 hour, 1.5 hours, End of current track
  3. Select "End of current track"
  4. Verify: Gold indicator appears below volume showing "Sleep after this track"
  5. Let the track finish -- player should pause automatically
  6. Test "Cancel" by clicking the X on the sleep timer indicator

Fullscreen:

  1. Click the fullscreen icon (expand arrows)
  2. Verify: Header and playlist hide, album art gets larger
  3. Click again to exit fullscreen
  4. Or press F key to toggle

Task 5: MEDIUM - Verify Search and UI Enhancements

Goal: Test the search filter and visual features.

Search:

  1. Type "God" in the search box
  2. Verify: Only "God of the In-Between" and "God in the Little Things" appear (other tracks hidden)
  3. Clear the search -- all 22 tracks reappear
  4. Search for "Jireh" -- should show 2 tracks by "Jireh Node"
  5. Search for "xyz" -- should show "No results" message

Audio Visualizer:

  1. Play a track and observe the "Now Playing" card
  2. Verify: Subtle frequency bars appear behind the album art (they animate with the music)
  3. The bars should be visible at the bottom of the card with a purple-to-cyan gradient

Swipe Gestures (mobile only):

  1. On mobile, swipe left on the album art -- should skip to next track
  2. Swipe right -- should go to previous track
  3. Small arrow hints should briefly appear during swipe

Track Duration:

  1. Verify: Each track in the playlist shows its duration (e.g., "3:02", "2:49")
  2. Durations load progressively -- some may show "--:--" initially and fill in after a few seconds

Buffer Indicator:

  1. Play a track and observe the progress bar
  2. Verify: A faint gray bar shows the buffered amount ahead of the playback position

Task 6: MEDIUM - Verify Keyboard Shortcuts

Goal: Test keyboard shortcuts work correctly (desktop only).

Key Expected Action
Space Toggle play/pause
Left Arrow Previous track (or restart if > 3s in)
Right Arrow Next track
Up Arrow Volume +10% (toast shows current %)
Down Arrow Volume -10%
M Toggle mute
S Toggle shuffle
R Cycle repeat mode
F Toggle fullscreen
0-9 Jump to 0%-90% of current track
  1. Click somewhere on the page (not the search box) to ensure focus
  2. Test each shortcut and verify the expected behavior
  3. Important: When the search box is focused, shortcuts should NOT fire (only the search should capture input)

Task 7: MEDIUM - Verify State Persistence

Goal: Confirm the player remembers its state across page refreshes.

  1. Play track #5 ("Dreams")
  2. Seek to about 1:30 into the track
  3. Set volume to ~60%
  4. Turn on shuffle
  5. Set repeat to "Repeat ALL"
  6. Change speed to 1.5x
  7. Refresh the page (F5 or Ctrl+R)
  8. Verify after refresh:
    • Track #5 should be selected (and at approximately 1:30)
    • Volume slider should be at ~60%
    • Shuffle button should be cyan (active)
    • Repeat button should be cyan (active, "Repeat ALL")
    • Speed should show "1.5x"
  9. Close the tab entirely, then reopen pulse.gograb.space/player/
  10. Verify: Same state is restored

Task 8: LOW - Verify Cloudflare R2 Token Permissions

Goal: Check if the Cloudflare API token can be updated to include R2 permissions for future media hosting migration.

Background: Currently, MP3 files are deployed directly via Cloudflare Pages (works fine for 22 tracks / 92MB). For future scalability (100+ tracks, album art, etc.), we planned to use Cloudflare R2 object storage. However, the current API token only has Pages permissions.

  1. Go to https://dash.cloudflare.com/profile/api-tokens
  2. Find the API token used for GoGrab deployments
  3. Check its permissions: Does it include "R2" or "Workers R2 Storage" permissions?
  4. If NOT, add the following permissions to the existing token (or create a new one):
    • Account > Workers R2 Storage > Edit
    • Account > Cloudflare Pages > Edit (should already exist)
  5. Report: Current token permissions and whether R2 was successfully added
  6. If R2 permissions are added, run this to verify:
    cd /Users/fguijarro/developer/repos-gspace/gspace1
    export CLOUDFLARE_ACCOUNT_ID=$(grep CLOUDFLARE_ACCOUNT_ID .env.local | cut -d= -f2)
    export CLOUDFLARE_API_TOKEN=$(grep CLOUDFLARE_API_TOKEN .env.local | cut -d= -f2)
    npx wrangler r2 bucket list

  7. If the bucket list command works, create the R2 bucket:
npx wrangler r2 bucket create pulse-music

Known Limitations / Notes

  1. MP3 files are not in git -- They are gitignored at deploy/gograb-pulse/music/*.mp3. They live on disk after being copied from iCloud. If the deploy directory is cleaned, re-run yarn sync:pulse -- --source icloud to copy them back from iCloud before deploying.

  2. iCloud source location: ~/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~CloudDocs/Music/Pulse Player Songs/ -- This folder contains the canonical 22 MP3 files plus a backup of songs.json.

  3. Cloudflare R2 not yet active -- The API token needs R2 permissions added (Task 8). Once available, the sync script supports --r2 flag to upload to R2.

  4. Backend API endpoints not yet tested -- The Pulse NestJS module has been created and registered but hasn't been tested with a running backend. This is non-blocking since the player currently loads from the static songs.json.

  5. songs.json shows 22 tracks -- The iCloud folder had 22 MP3s (one more than the original 21 listed in the plan). The extra track was already in the folder.

  6. Audio visualizer requires user interaction -- Due to browser autoplay policies, the AudioContext for the visualizer only initializes after the user clicks Play for the first time.
