Documentation for Plans
Vitto-Mediated Training System — Phases 2, 3, 4 Implementation Plan
For agentic workers: REQUIRED: Use superpowers:subagent-driven-development (if subagents available) or superpowers:executing-plans to implement this plan. Steps use checkbox (
- [ ]) syntax for tracking.
Goal: Complete the Vitto training plugin system by adding self-learning (Phase 2), agent evaluation (Phase 3), and pattern extraction with cross-teaching (Phase 4) — enabling Vitto to learn autonomously, test agents with real tasks, and share knowledge across agents.
Architecture: Three new plugins built on the Phase 1 TrainingPlugin interface, registered via TrainingPluginRegistry. Each plugin adds tools, lifecycle hooks, and REST endpoints. Rate limiting uses in-memory counters with Redis upgrade path. All LLM calls go through ProviderFactoryService.getForPhase('VERIFY') for cheap scoring.
Tech Stack: NestJS (backend-vitto-api), MongoDB, Vitto LLM ProviderFactory, BullMQ/Redis (rate limiting)
Spec: docs/superpowers/specs/2026-03-12-vitto-mediated-training-system-design.md
Prerequisite: Phase 1 is complete. All files in APIs/backend-vitto-api/src/app/training/ exist.

git commit -m "[S210.3] feat: add SelfLearningPlugin with quality scoring and rate limiting"
Task 3: Register SelfLearningPlugin + Add Controller Endpoints
Files:
Modify:
APIs/backend-vitto-api/src/app/training/training.module.tsModify:
APIs/backend-vitto-api/src/app/training/training.controller.tsStep 1: Update TrainingModule to register SelfLearningPlugin
In APIs/backend-vitto-api/src/app/training/training.module.ts:
Add imports:
import { ConfigModule, ConfigService } from '@nestjs/config';
import { TrainingRateLimiterService } from './services/training-rate-limiter.service';
import { createSelfLearningPlugin } from './plugins/self-learning.plugin';
Add ConfigModule to imports array, TrainingRateLimiterService to providers array, and ConfigService + TrainingRateLimiterService to constructor. In onModuleInit, add:
this.registry.register(createSelfLearningPlugin(
this.injector.get(ProviderFactoryService),
this.injector.get(BackendAiClientService),
this.injector.get(VittoNarrativeService),
this.rateLimiter,
this.configService,
));
Note: Since TrainingModule imports forwardRef(() => EngineModule) (which provides VittoNarrativeService, SubAgentService), and imports LLMModule (which provides ProviderFactoryService), and imports ConnectivityModule (which provides BackendAiClientService), these services are available for injection. Use ModuleRef (NestJS @nestjs/core) to get them in onModuleInit:
import { Module, OnModuleInit, Logger, forwardRef, Inject } from '@nestjs/common';
import { ModuleRef } from '@nestjs/core';
import { ConfigModule, ConfigService } from '@nestjs/config';
import { TrainingPluginRegistry } from './training-plugin-registry.service';
import { TrainingOrchestratorService } from './training-orchestrator.service';
import { TrainingController } from './training.controller';
import { TrainingRateLimiterService } from './services/training-rate-limiter.service';
import { ToolsModule } from '../tools/tools.module';
import { ConnectivityModule } from '../connectivity/connectivity.module';
import { LLMModule } from '../llm/llm.module';
import { EngineModule } from '../engine/engine.module';
// Plugins
import { createConversationalTeachPlugin } from './plugins/conversational-teach.plugin';
import { createSelfLearningPlugin } from './plugins/self-learning.plugin';
import { ProviderFactoryService } from '../llm/provider-factory.service';
import { BackendAiClientService } from '../connectivity/backend-ai-client.service';
import { VittoNarrativeService } from '../engine/vitto-narrative.service';
@Module({
imports: [
ConfigModule,
ToolsModule,
ConnectivityModule,
LLMModule,
forwardRef(() => EngineModule),
],
controllers: [TrainingController],
providers: [TrainingPluginRegistry, TrainingOrchestratorService, TrainingRateLimiterService],
exports: [TrainingPluginRegistry],
})
export class TrainingModule implements OnModuleInit {
private readonly logger = new Logger('TrainingModule');
constructor(
private readonly registry: TrainingPluginRegistry,
private readonly orchestrator: TrainingOrchestratorService,
private readonly rateLimiter: TrainingRateLimiterService,
private readonly moduleRef: ModuleRef,
private readonly configService: ConfigService,
) {}
async onModuleInit() {
const providerFactory = this.moduleRef.get(ProviderFactoryService, { strict: false });
const aiClient = this.moduleRef.get(BackendAiClientService, { strict: false });
const narrative = this.moduleRef.get(VittoNarrativeService, { strict: false });
// Register core plugins
this.registry.register(createConversationalTeachPlugin(this.orchestrator));
this.registry.register(createSelfLearningPlugin(
providerFactory, aiClient, narrative, this.rateLimiter, this.configService,
));
this.logger.log(`Training system initialized: ${this.registry.getAllPlugins().length} plugin(s) registered`);
}
}
- Step 2: Add self-learning endpoints to TrainingController
In APIs/backend-vitto-api/src/app/training/training.controller.ts, add:
/**
* GET /vitto-api/training/self-learning/stats
* Self-learning metrics.
*/
@Get('self-learning/stats')
getSelfLearningStats() {
const plugin = this.registry.getPlugin('self-learning');
if (!plugin?.endpoints) {
return { enabled: false, totalLearned: 0 };
}
const statsEndpoint = plugin.endpoints.find(e => e.path === 'self-learning/stats');
return statsEndpoint?.handler({}, {}) ?? { enabled: false };
}
/**
* POST /vitto-api/training/self-learning/toggle
* Enable/disable self-learning.
*/
@Post('self-learning/toggle')
toggleSelfLearning(@Body() body: { enabled: boolean }) {
const plugin = this.registry.getPlugin('self-learning');
if (!plugin?.endpoints) {
return { enabled: false };
}
const toggleEndpoint = plugin.endpoints.find(e => e.path === 'self-learning/toggle');
return toggleEndpoint?.handler(body as any, {} as any) ?? { enabled: false };
}
- Step 3: Verify backend compiles
Run: npx tsc --noEmit --project APIs/backend-vitto-api/tsconfig.app.json 2>&1 | head -20
Expected: No errors from training-related files
- Step 4: Run all training tests
Run: npx jest --config APIs/backend-vitto-api/jest.config.ts APIs/backend-vitto-api/src/app/training/ --no-cache
Expected: All tests PASS
- Step 5: Commit
git add APIs/backend-vitto-api/src/app/training/training.module.ts APIs/backend-vitto-api/src/app/training/training.controller.ts

- Step 5: Final commit
git add -A
git commit -m "[S210.3] chore: Phases 2-4 complete — full Vitto training plugin system operational"
Summary: What Phases 2-4 Deliver
After completing all 10 tasks:
Phase 2 (Tasks 1-3)
- TrainingRateLimiterService — hourly/daily/per-agent rate limits, duplicate detection
- SelfLearningPlugin —
onTaskCompletedhook, LLM quality scoring, auto-submit/review-queue/discard - Self-learning endpoints —
/self-learning/stats+/self-learning/toggle
Phase 3 (Tasks 4-6)
- AgentEvaluationPlugin —
evaluate_agenttool, LLM-as-judge scoring - TrainingOrchestratorService.evaluateAgent() — simulated agent execution + quality scoring
- Evaluate stub replaced —
/evaluateendpoint now produces real results
Phase 4 (Tasks 7-9)
- TrainingOrchestratorService.extractPatterns() — LLM pattern analysis + cross-teaching loop
- PatternExtractionPlugin —
extract_patternstool,onSkillExtractedhook for cross-teaching - Pattern stub replaced —
/patterns/extractendpoint now produces real results
Verification (Task 10)
- All tests pass, both backends compile, 4 plugins registered
What's NOT in these phases: Redis-backed rate limiting (uses in-memory with Redis upgrade path), semantic similarity for duplicate detection (uses hash comparison), regression guard (noted as follow-on), corpus diversity enforcement (noted as follow-on).
