Session 12.4 - Page Builder Improvements

🎯 Issues Fixed

1. Widget Selection Bug

Problem: Widget selection would close immediately after first click.

Solution:

• Added drag threshold (3px movement) before starting drag
• Separated click selection from drag initiation
• Reset drag state properly on mouse up

2. Backend Persistence

Problem: Pages were not persisting to backend MongoDB.

Solution:

• Updated PageSaveService to sync with backend API
• Added PUT/POST to /pages/:id endpoint
• Graceful fallback to local-only save if backend fails
• Added sync status indicator (synced/pending/error)

3. AI Panel Connection

Problem: "Ask AI" button did nothing.

Solution:

• Added askAI output to WidgetPaletteComponent
• Connected to onAskAI() method in main component
• Emits openAIPanel output for parent to handle
• Parent (main-shell) can toggle AI panel visibility

4. Properties Panel

Problem: No way to edit widget properties.

Solution: Created new PropertiesPanelComponent with:

• Position editing (X, Y) with breakpoint awareness
• Size editing (Width, Height)
• Style editing (Background, Border Radius)
• Content editing (Text, Button label)
• Delete/Duplicate actions
• Collapsible property groups

5. Section-Based Layout

Problem: No way to organize widgets into sections.

Solution: Created new PageSectionComponent with:

• Section types: container, hero, content, footer, sidebar
• Layout modes: stack, grid, flex, free
• Collapsible sections
• Drag-drop support for adding widgets
• Visual indicators for empty sections

🧪 Testing

1. Widget Selection

   • Click widget → should select and stay selected
   • Click again → should remain selected
   • Click elsewhere → should deselect

2. Drag vs Click

   • Click widget quickly → selects without drag
   • Click and move 3+ pixels → starts drag

3. Properties Panel

   • Select widget → properties appear in right panel
   • Edit position → widget moves
   • Edit size → widget resizes
   • Click delete → widget removed

4. Save

   • Make changes → Save button shows "Save Changes"
   • Click save → syncs to backend
   • Shows success toast

5. Ask AI

   • Click "Ask AI to create custom widgets"
   • Should trigger AI panel open (if integrated in parent)
