Property Templates Migration - Summary

Task Completed ✅

Successfully analyzed and fixed the property_templates storage architecture issue where templates were incorrectly stored in space-specific databases instead of the global gograb-core database.

Migration Instructions

See detailed guide: docs/migrations/PROPERTY_TEMPLATES_MIGRATION.md

Quick Start

  1. Dry Run (Safe - No Changes):
curl -X POST "http://localhost:3000/api/spaces/any-space-id/properties/migrate-templates-to-core?dryRun=true"
  1. Review Output - Check for errors and verify counts

  2. Run Migration:

curl -X POST "http://localhost:3000/api/spaces/any-space-id/properties/migrate-templates-to-core?dryRun=false"
  1. Verify - Check gograb-core.core_property_templates in MongoDB Compass

  2. Test - Restart backend and test widget creation/editing

  3. Cleanup (Optional - After thorough testing):

curl -X DELETE "http://localhost:3000/api/spaces/{spaceId}/properties/cleanup-space-templates"

Benefits

  1. ✅ Data Consistency: All spaces use the same templates
  2. ✅ Reduced Redundancy: No duplicate templates across spaces
  3. ✅ Storage Efficiency: Single copy instead of per-space copies
  4. ✅ Easier Maintenance: Update once, applies everywhere
  5. ✅ Correct Architecture: Matches the pattern of core_properties
  6. ✅ Backward Compatible: Fallback to space databases if needed

Next Steps

  1. Review this summary and the migration guide
  2. Run dry-run to see what will be migrated
  3. Execute migration when ready
  4. Verify templates are in gograb-core
  5. Test the application thoroughly
  6. Cleanup old templates after verification (optional)
