Session 60: Cloud MCP External Access & Superpower Vision

Date: January 22, 2026 Branch: editor2-session-60 Status: Complete

Executive Summary

Session 60 enabled external access to Cloud MCP for Claude Cowork and created a comprehensive MCP Superpower Vision roadmap:

  1. API Key Authentication - Enabled JwtOrApiKeyGuard on tool-calling endpoints
  2. Deployment - Pushed to deploy/ai-api for Railway deployment
  3. Documentation - Created CLOUD-MCP-EXTERNAL-ACCESS.md guide
  4. Vision Plan - Created MCP-SUPERPOWER-VISION.md roadmap

1. API Key Authentication for Cloud MCP

The Gap

Session 59.1 implemented ProjectApiKeyGuard and JwtOrApiKeyGuard but they were not wired to any endpoints. All MCP Gateway endpoints required JWT authentication, blocking external access.

The Fix

Updated mcp-gateway.controller.ts:

Endpoint Before After
GET /mcp/tools JwtAuthGuard JwtOrApiKeyGuard
POST /mcp/tools/call JwtAuthGuard JwtOrApiKeyGuard + TierLimitGuard
POST /mcp/preflight JwtAuthGuard JwtOrApiKeyGuard + TierLimitGuard
GET /mcp/usage JwtAuthGuard JwtOrApiKeyGuard
GET /mcp/usage/history JwtAuthGuard JwtOrApiKeyGuard
POST /mcp/projects JwtAuthGuard JwtAuthGuard (unchanged)
GET /mcp/projects JwtAuthGuard JwtAuthGuard (unchanged)

Authentication Headers

# External projects use:
X-MCP-API-Key: mcp_abc123...
X-MCP-Project-Id: my-project

2. Deployment

Merged editor2-session-60 into deploy/ai-api and pushed to trigger Railway deployment:

git checkout deploy/ai-api
git merge editor2-session-60
# Resolved railway.toml conflict (keep ai-api version)
git push origin deploy/ai-api

3. Documentation Created

CLOUD-MCP-EXTERNAL-ACCESS.md

Comprehensive guide covering:

MCP-SUPERPOWER-VISION.md

7-phase roadmap for MCP evolution:

Phase Focus Sessions
1 Universal Access 60 (Done)
2 Smart Context 61-62
3 Proactive Intelligence 63-65
4 Team Intelligence 66-68
5 Cross-Platform Sync 69-71

5. Decisions Logged

ID Type Question Chosen
dev_1769126443252 implementation How to enable external access? JwtOrApiKeyGuard on endpoints
dev_1769126446786 architecture Auth strategy for endpoints? Hybrid - JWT for management, JWT+ApiKey for tools
dev_1769126532860 architecture Long-term MCP vision? Universal AI Intelligence Layer

6. Using Cloud MCP from Claude Cowork

Step 1: Create Project (requires JWT)

curl -X POST https://ai-api.gograb.space/ai-api/mcp/projects \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_JWT" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"projectId": "claude-cowork", "displayName": "Claude Cowork"}'

Step 2: Use MCP Tools (API Key)

curl -X POST https://ai-api.gograb.space/ai-api/mcp/preflight \
  -H "X-MCP-API-Key: mcp_abc123..." \
  -H "X-MCP-Project-Id: claude-cowork" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"task": "Implementing feature X"}'

7. Next Steps (Session 61)

  1. Verify deployment - Test Cloud MCP from external client
  2. Create test project - Dogfood the external access
  3. Start Phase 2 - Implement auto-context detection
  4. WebSocket support - Real-time updates
