Session 75.7: MCP Enhancement & Multi-Agent UX Overhaul

Date: 2026-01-30 Branch: editor2-session-75.5 Status: Complete

Overview

Session 75.7 focused on enhancing the MCP (Model Context Protocol) system with intelligent tool contexts and overhauling the multi-agent UX for seamless collaboration between Claude Code and Cowork agents.

Key Achievements

  1. MCP Tool Contexts System - Organized 51+ tools into 11 intelligent contexts
  2. Chrome Extension Agent Panel - Lightweight 320px panel replacing full dashboard
  3. Embeddable Bridge Protocol - Secure cross-origin iframe communication
  4. MCP Projects Management UI - Multi-tenant project CRUD interface
  5. Agent Collaboration Without Intervention - Handoffs work autonomously

Technical Implementation

1. MCP Tool Contexts

Problem: All 51 tools exposed to all agents regardless of capability Solution: Filter tools by agent type and context

Files Created

Contexts Defined

Context ID Name Tools Enabled For
core Core Intelligence preflight, log_decision, find_similar, etc. all
agent-collab Agent Collaboration create_handoff, get_pending_handoffs, etc. all
code-intel Code Intelligence code_review, test_gen, graph code
space-builder Space Builder space_generate, analyze_requirement, validate_module code
git Git Integration git_session_analyzer, init_git_tracking code
docs-intel Documentation docs_search, docs_intelligence, get_ai_generation_rules all
workflow Workflow & Recovery workflow, self_healing, behavior_mode, persona all
analytics Analytics & Stats get_stats, get_enhanced_stats, get_session_summary, etc. all
browser Browser Automation All mcp__playwright__* tools browser
search Search & Research web_search, docs_search all
chat-context Chat Context Management register_chat_context, get_chat_context, etc. all

Usage

// Get contexts for current agent type
list_contexts({ agentType: 'cursor' }) // Shows all contexts
list_contexts({ agentType: 'cowork' })  // Hides code-intel, space-builder, git

2. Chrome Extension Agent Panel

Problem: Extension embedded full /system/agent-control-center (heavy) Solution: Lightweight /ai/agent-panel optimized for 320px width

Files Modified

Features

Route

/ai/agent-panel?theme=auto&extension=true&instanceId=xxx

3. Embeddable Bridge Protocol

Secure PostMessage communication between Chrome extension and Angular panel.

Message Types

const BRIDGE_MESSAGES = {
  // Lifecycle
  AI_APP_READY: 'AI_APP_READY',     // Panel → Extension: Ready
  AI_PING: 'AI_PING',               // Extension → Panel: Health check
  AI_PONG: 'AI_PONG',               // Panel → Extension: Health response
  AI_HEARTBEAT: 'AI_HEARTBEAT',     // Extension → Panel: Keep-alive

  // Auth
  AI_AUTH_INIT: 'AI_AUTH_INIT',     // Extension → Panel: User auth
  AI_AUTH_REFRESH: 'AI_AUTH_REFRESH', // Token refresh

  // Context
  AI_CONTEXT_UPDATE: 'AI_CONTEXT_UPDATE', // Extension → Panel: Page context

  // Panel Control
  AI_PANEL_COLLAPSE: 'AI_PANEL_COLLAPSE',
  AI_PANEL_EXPAND: 'AI_PANEL_EXPAND',
  AI_THEME_CHANGE: 'AI_THEME_CHANGE',

  // Agent Collaboration
  AI_HANDOFF_RECEIVED: 'AI_HANDOFF_RECEIVED',
  AI_HANDOFF_ACCEPTED: 'AI_HANDOFF_ACCEPTED',
  AI_HANDOFF_COMPLETED: 'AI_HANDOFF_COMPLETED',

  // Actions
  AI_EXECUTE_ACTION: 'AI_EXECUTE_ACTION', // Panel → Extension: Execute on page
};

Security Layers

  1. Origin Validation - Only ai.gograb.space and localhost:5200
  2. Message Type Whitelist - Only known types accepted
  3. Instance ID Validation - Prevents replay attacks

4. MCP Projects Management UI

Route: /ai/projects

Features

Component

@Component({
  selector: 'lib-mcp-projects',
  standalone: true,
  imports: [CommonModule, FormsModule],
  templateUrl: './mcp-projects.component.html',
  styleUrl: './mcp-projects.component.scss',
})
export class McpProjectsComponent

API Endpoints (Existing)

Agent Collaboration Flow

Handoff Workflow

  1. Claude Code creates handoff → create_handoff() MCP tool
  2. Backend broadcasts → WebSocket to all connected agents
  3. Cowork receives → Agent panel shows notification
  4. Cowork accepts → Via panel or API
  5. Cowork executes tests → Browser automation
  6. Cowork completes → Results sent back
  7. Claude Code receives → Via get_pending_handoffs() or WebSocket

No User Intervention Required

The entire flow works autonomously:
