Session 78: GoGrab AI Panel Enhancement & Chrome Extension Auth

Executive Summary

Session 78 resolved the critical "Not Authenticated" issue in the Chrome extension and transformed the gograb-ai panel into a feature-rich command center with:

Smart authentication sync from main app to extension
Tabbed interface with Chat, Agents, Handoffs, and Mind tabs
Panel Intelligence integration for smarter AI interactions
Agent Mind visualization with thought streams and knowledge browser
Real-time handoff notifications with in-panel toasts

Critical Issue Fixed

Problem: "Not Authenticated" in Chrome Extension

Root Cause:

Extension read from chrome.storage.local['authToken']
Nothing ever wrote to this storage
Main app stored token in localStorage, not synced to extension

Solution: Implemented bidirectional auth sync:

Background script (service-worker.js) monitors main app tabs
When user is on gograb-space (5200), injects script to read auth
Syncs token to chrome.storage.local
Content script sends token to embedded panel via postMessage

Key Achievements

1. Authentication Sync

Implemented syncAuthFromMainApp() in service worker
Added AUTH_SYNC, GET_AUTH_STATUS, CLEAR_AUTH message handlers
Created popup login/sync buttons as fallback
Added retry logic with exponential backoff

2. Panel Enhancement (4 Tabs)

Chat Tab: AI conversation with intent detection
Agents Tab: Agent grid with online/offline status
Handoffs Tab: Kanban board with pending/in-progress/completed
Mind Tab: Thought streams, knowledge browser, decision timeline

3. Panel Intelligence Integration

IntentDetectionService for smarter input handling
PanelSessionPersistenceService for chat persistence
OutputFactoryService for consistent output creation

4. UX Enhancements

Loading overlays for async operations
Error banner when backend is unavailable
Quick actions bar (Generate, Code, Search, Quick)
Keyboard shortcuts (Cmd+1/2/3/4 for tab switching)
In-panel notification toasts

5. Handoff System Fixes

Chrome extension now registers as agentType: 'browser' with canBrowse: true
Backend routes browser handoffs by capability, not platform
Added handoff.assigned event handling

Architecture Changes

Before (Broken Auth)

Main App (5200) → User logs in → Token in localStorage
            ↓
    (NO SYNC MECHANISM)
            ↓
Chrome Extension → Reads empty storage → Sends null token

After (Working Auth)

Main App (5200) → User logs in → Token in localStorage
            ↓
Background Script detects tab → Injects sync function
            ↓
Reads localStorage → Sends to chrome.storage.local
            ↓
Content Script → Reads storage → Sends AI_AUTH_INIT to panel
            ↓
Panel (5300) → Receives token → Shows "Authenticated"

Handoff Routing Fix

Before (Broken)

Browser handoffs restricted to platform: 'cowork'
Chrome extension (platform: 'external') never received handoffs

After (Fixed)

Browser handoffs routed by canBrowse: true capability
Chrome extension registers with canBrowse: true
Both Cowork and Chrome extension can receive browser handoffs

Known Limitations

Cowork (Claude Desktop) still cannot receive push notifications (browser automation only)
Panel width persistence requires page reload to take effect
Session persistence clears on extension update
